About Me

Hello, I’m Chantelle. I’ve been tutoring for over five years in mainstream schools, private tuition centres and online. My experience covers teaching English from KS2 through to KS5, with specialisms in GCSE English Language and Literature, 11+ exam preparation and English as a foreign language. I hold a Bachelor's degree in English Language, a Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and a CELTA qualification from Cambridge.

My Approach

I focus on making learning engaging and exam preparation more straightforward, aiming to reduce stress and build students’ independence. My goal is to equip students with the skills and tools they need to confidently self-study. I use a variety of teaching methods to keep sessions dynamic, ensuring they remain both effective and enjoyable.

My Story

Around six years ago, during my bachelor’s degree, I started as a specialist classroom assistant for children who didn’t speak English as their first language. Working in a local primary school was incredibly rewarding and I soon ventured into various schools across my home city. In the evenings, I tutored at private tuition centres, helping students prepare for 11+ exams, GCSEs and A-levels. I quickly noticed that many students felt overwhelmed by the amount of content in literature exams, unsure of how to approach it to achieve the marks they wanted. This inspired me to create my own teaching materials, including revision guides, essay writing frameworks and simplified mark scheme checklists, making the content more accessible and manageable for my students. Since then, I’ve taken on various leadership roles in teaching and tutoring across different platforms. Most recently, I’ve become a home tutor for families who have chosen to educate their children at home. Many of these families are concerned with the relevance of the school curriculum or feel that mainstream teaching methods are leaving their children behind. My home-learning content is carefully designed to align with the national curriculum but remains flexible, focusing on real-life skills like inference, summarising, and fostering a genuine love for English literature. I’m excited to share my knowledge with new students on this platform!
